Bear River Health offers recovery housing, commonly known as sober living homes, providing drug- and alcohol-free environments for individuals transitioning from rehabilitation to independent living. These residences support residents in maintaining sobriety and continuing their recovery journey.


Recovery Housing Locations:

Pigeon River House: A 14-bed men’s facility in Gaylord, Michigan.

Jordan River House: A 20-bed men’s facility in Charlevoix, Michigan.

Real Recovery House: An 11-bed women’s facility in Petoskey, Michigan.


All rooms are shared, and residents may stay for up to one year. These houses are certified by the Michigan Association of Recovery Residences (MARR) and are situated in communities that offer supportive resources like Alano Clubs and Recovery Community Organizations.


Eligibility and Requirements:

Completion of Inpatient Care: Applicants must have successfully completed residential treatment.

Active Participation in Treatment: Residents are required to engage in ongoing treatment, including:

• Intensive Outpatient (IOP) Group: Nine hours weekly during the first month.

• Outpatient (OP) Group: One hour weekly from the second to sixth month.

• Individual Counseling: One hour weekly for six months.

Support Group Attendance: Attendance at three external support group meetings (e.g., AA, NA) per week is mandatory.

Funding: Applicants from specific regions (2, 4, 5, and Region 3 - Ottawa County) may be eligible for funding. Bear River Outreach does not accept Medicare; clients must have alternative insurance or pay out of pocket. Counseling session fees are billed separately from housing costs.
